The Acheson Industrial Area Structure Plan covers about 5,019 hectares (12,402 acres) in the northeast part of Parkland County. It is bounded by Highway 16 to the north, the City of Edmonton to the east, Highway 628 and Enoch Cree Nation to the south, and the City of Spruce Grove to the west. Highways 16, 16A, 60 and 628 serve the area, with interchanges at Highway 16 and Highway 44, Highway 16 and Highway 60, and Highway 16A and Highway 60.

Acheson is not a town, so there is no separate town office. Development and building permits go through Parkland County and are applied for online through the County's PLANit portal, where you can also pay fees and book inspections. Both the County's Land Use Bylaw, Bylaw 2025-12, and the Acheson Area Structure Plan apply to anything built here.

Homes still exist inside the plan area, and the plan protects them, but it limits what can be added. Residential development is supported only in areas mapped as residential and only on pre-existing lots, and new multi-parcel residential subdivisions are prohibited. The plan also keeps a 200 metre industrial use setback from the edge of residential areas. If you own an existing acreage here, garages, decks, additions and renovations go through the County's normal permit process.

For businesses, the County points to full water and wastewater servicing and some of the lowest land prices in the Edmonton region. Parkland County is starting Phase 2 of its Acheson plan update in spring 2026, so we confirm current policy at the start of each project.
